 Spot Hogg Sites - you can't kill them

Over the years two things bother me about hunting sights, they aren't tough enough and break easily, or the pins get halio's around them with too much light and you can't see.  Like most of you, I also used a couple different sights trying to find the one that works best for my shooting and hunting style. This past year I bought the "Right On" site by Spot Hogg!  The folks I hunt with have been using it for a couple of years and I noticed that I had gone through a number of sights in the time they had gone through one.  I have been very pleased with how rugged this sight is.  Hunting as much as I do and how much time I spend in tree stands, banging the bow on things just happens, and yes, I have broken pins and the level more than once.  Now, I have unfortunately banged the Spot Hogg and to my surprise, not one dent and nothing broken.  If you have hunted turkeys and moved much in the dark, then you know what happens to your sights!  Well, not this sight and I am very happy!

I will get a better logo here soon, but I want to get this in place!  I hunt in 5 states, work in a archery pro shop, work on staff for an outfitter during the Colorado Archery season and shoot competatively during the off season.  In the past 5 years I have used the Ripcord drop away rest on my 3 bows.  That is 3 rests, used in rain, snow, sleet, mud, wind, dust and dirt, packed into the hi country, river bottoms, tree stands, and I wish I could say they were treated well during through all of this, but, I can't.  If you hunt and shoot much, you know the beating a bow and accessories take in one year, let alone 5.  I have shot 27,278 arrows with these 3 rests in the 5 years, taken 42 critters (elk, deer, antelope and turkeys), placed in archery tournments and won a couple.  Shot leagues both indoor and outdoor and with all of this, I have had 1, yes 1, arrow holder break!  I actually caused it when setting up a new draw length and forgot to reset the drop tension and when the arrow launched, it hit the arm of the rest breaking it.  It took about 3 min to unscrew the 2 holding screws and replace the rest arm, about 1 min to reset the tension, and I was back in action.  Think about that, 27, 278 shots in all kinds of weather and locations, 1 problem!  If you want a consistent, reliable rest, easy to tune and maintain, simple to install and set up and really easy to paper tune, this is the rest for you!  Oh, and I also shoot with fingers, as well as a release.  And yes, it works even better with fingers!  Call me to visit about finger shooting this rest!  Visit them at:

This year I needed to change the safety system I was using for all my tree stand time!  Even though the price was a bit higher than I expected, boy what a surprise in my comfort and confidence staying in my stands in all kinds of trees!  Hunting in numerous states and in various locations and conditions, being safe is number one.  I met a man this past year who had an accident and he consistently reminded me (just talking to him in his chair) of how important having the proper safety device is, and that having one that is comfortable and fits properly, makes your time in a stand much more productive and fun.  I bought my Pro series HSS system late October and spent 14 days in the field so far, 25 total hunts of about 100 hours in a tree stand 18' above the ground in wind, rain and snow.  I have about that many more days in a stand coming and I can count on nasty weather.  I bought my vest, just like all of you will, please don't skimp on the system, this is the best vest I tried on, simple to hook up, the legs don't ride up as you move and climb, pockets that work, you can reach the teather easily, folks, this is the real deal and is worth every penny of you hard earned money!  I asked HSS to send me this logo to put here, I want you to email them, contact them at their web site, or contact Chris, but please don't get in your stand without a top quality safety system.

It's easy to tell you about our broadheads!  We have been using mechanicals for our turkeys the past few years and started using the Terminal T Lock broadhead for our big game animals, well, needless to say we have knocked down a log of critters in the past two years using the TTLock.  Elk, deer, turkeys, should have been a few coyotes but I missed, all have fallen to the TTLock!  Pass throughs, but the truely telling shot was one where I hit a small branch, glanced off and went through the leading back leg, broke the femur and into the trailing back leg and passed through that and stuck in the ground!  The deer ran off and we tracked it about 350 yards.  The blood trail was unreal as was the effect of the TTLock on that deer!  The bull elk, pass through and down in sight, deer pass through and down in sight (except mine), so what do we use now, you guessed it, Torphy Taker's, Terminal T Lock!   If you want to look at all their products check their web sight

This guy went 3 yards!  He dropped two steps after hitting him in the sweet spot, that nice body wiggle and down he went!  I love those tracking jobs!

Blacks Creek - Guide Gear packs

A few years ago I decided to buy an expandable pack to carry elk out of the back country, I was tired of going back to camp and then out again just to get a pack frame.  The first trip back was a waste since all I could carry was the hunting stuff since I had no room.  Well, I bought a Blacks Creek "Canadian" expandable pack and the second week of hunting I used it carrying my cow elk out.  I have used it a number of times since hauling elk quarters on the first trip after the shot.  Last year I wanted to start using a small waist pack and bought a pack from another company just to use, not a good idea.  Yep, second day out and I shot another cow and the pack could not carry one bag of meat out.  Straps broke, the waist strap was weak and it was a mess after 2 weeks.  I just bought my second Blacks Creek pack the Mathews 3:16 waist pack and I can tell you from wearing it around it is going to be great.  And, these packs are not as expensive as the other brand I bought.  Better quality and at a more favorable price, can't beat that!  Give one of these a try, it is a good thing!  Don't tell em I sent you, tell them your back sent you!
