Hardwood turkey Box Calls
Purple Heart, no other box call made anywhere
has as much of this wonderful feeling, looking
and sounding hard wood as this call! 90% of this
call is Purple Heart, the rest is cherry wood!
Like most of you out there I received my "Big C..." catalog for turkey hunting and had to check out all the new stuff! Looking at box calls I see that the big boys are now offering their calls made in Mexico, Canada and China from $33 - $69 and they only have a paddle made of Purple Heart (the hardwood long known for its sound production capability) and you get a machined call made out of country! This year I lowered my price by a few dollars by removing things that you hunters told me I didn't need to ship with the calls, so instead of leaving the price where it was and getting more profit, I passed the cost savings along to you! Yep, my calls are still made right here in my shop (garage) by me, hand made mistakes and all, you will love how they look, how they sound and once you feel it, you will realize just how nice a true hardwood call can be! Two months to go and it's "turkey time" it is hard to wait!!!
All of my calls are made here in America, by me!!! I hand make each call, there is no large production runs using NC machines, each call is made by hand, shaped by hand, sanded by hand and tuned by hand! Now that I am only making the JB Hen, the Purple Heart call as some like to call it, I am
making them with added time and touch so the calls have even a more rich look to them than before.
I hope you will look for another box call anywhere you can find them, most call makers and big houses make a paddle out of this wonderful wood, and that is all they will make with it due to the cost and the handlings time it takes to make this hard wood come out like you want it to. Even with the price of these two hard woods, and in particular Purple Heart, I am keeping the price at or below other box calls so you can have this wonderful call at a price of a regular, machine made, and those made outside of America, price!
For 2011, there is one box call made of hard woods (JB Hen - Purple heart cherry). Based on the popularity of the JB Hen in 2010, I have decided to only make this box call and will make them on a limited quantity. By slowing down the process of building them it allows for more of the rich purple color to come out of the wood and the 2011 version is darker and more rich looking than before. The feel and sound is like no other box call I have heard.
The laser engraved Purple Heart paddle adds not only the sound all call makers want, but the true rich color of this hard wood makes the call stand out, you know it has to look good!
The design of the call base allows the caller to hold the call tucked into the thumb of the left hand, which allows the box to remain free to make full, rich sounds without the fear of deadning the call box itself with your fingers.
By holding the call in this manner, with the larger base that I have added to the call, you are free to let the paddle do the work, and the sides of the call are always free from any muting effect of your hand.
The laser engraved Purple Heart, which is extremely hard wood imported from South America, makes the best paddles of any wood I have tried. In in fact it is so popular as a paddle wood you can find almost all of the large companies use it to make their CNC machined paddles. It provides a hard edge for striking the call box and can be sanded, or chalked, for use!
