Elk Success

Fall of 2008 we launched the new version of "Sweet Mama" and it is a great success!  I have heard many of the stories and a few of them are coming in now as email, some with pics, and I am happy to see that many cow elk are being taken as well as nice bulls!  Like I mention in the opening box of the elk call, when you hunt alone and call for yourself, having that sweet sound is so nice!

In 2009 I changed the successful "Sweet Mama" to make it more easily carried, and to make a slightly higher pitch like that of a calf, and a cow.  To do that I had to adjust the reed and mouth piece and eliminate the sound chamber.  This made the call "sweet pocket mama" the only two note, all wood calf/cow call on the market today!  What a success this call has become!  I have put the largest elk pic on the home page as well as here, Richard from Georgia took down this awsome 6x8 from about 15 yards after calling him in as he followed a nice calf and cow!

You can see how easily my grand daughter holds the call in her mouth, wood mouth piece up, and blows easily on the reed.  It took her a few minutes to get the hang of it, but then she was calling elk like crazy!  She is better than me already!

  •  "We just wanted to thank you for the hunt of a lifetime. your "sweet mama" cow call lives true to its name............SWEET!  Your help and guidence made our hunt memory filled.

BW, Dan and Larry, great bull BW, not bad for the first elk!   Next year you can carry it out and your dad and all of us will watch!   As I laugh at how this one worked out!  Great job!

  • "Wow, I love my trinity cow elk call!  No phony, plastic sound here.  Trouble is, I only got to use it one day this year.  When I came upon the musky smell of elk hanging in the air I backed up to a tree, nocked an arrow and make two cow calls.  It wasn't 3 minutes and a group of cows and calves came walking though the timber at me.  I shot this big cow at 20 yards."

Greg in Colorado Springs, this guy puts down a lot of critters every year, good job Greg!

  • "The soft sound of your cow elk call is so much better for in close work than all of my plastic calls, it brought my cow elk to within 40 yards where I shot her.  Without it I could not have worked her close enough to shoot her.  Thanks BJ"

  • "Using your cow call I called in 8 different cows during our week there!  The video of the first one was amazing how close she got before winding me!  I waited for the bull to come closer that one night you called, but even without shooting an elk, I had an exciting week.  Next year my wife and I are coming and we will shoot one of those cows!

"Sitting in the tree stand overlooking a trail, I called hoping a cow or calf might wander bey as they headed toward a beading area, within a few minutes I noticed the cow and calf headed my way, and heard a twig snap.  Right behind me was this tiny little guy, when he got within 15 yards I shot him.  He went about 60 yards and then the work began.  This is the largest elk I have ever shot, what and elk!"

I got to personally see this elk and took this picture!  This is an awsome elk.  Richard has hunted this area for about 30 years, and I have known him for at least 7 of those years.  This elk was taken on public land in Colorado, and they say large bulls don't live in Colorado. Well, if you hunt west of I-25, South of Wyoming, North of New Mexico and east of Utah, you will find bulls like this in Colorado!

This nice Colorado bull was taken on public land.  In Colorado there is a lot of public land and a lot of private, Greg has a habit of taking a elk every year, his theory (he didn't tel lme this but I know him well enough to paraphrase this "if I have a license for the animal, and I would shot it on the last day of the hunt, I might as well shot it on the first day of the hunt".  He has an incredible run of animals, and he hunts hard!  Look for an article from him in one of the hunting mags soon (I hope they publish it).

“Two days before shooting this bull, I called in a bachelor group of four rag horn bulls.  I thought the lead bull was going to trample me when he saw me and bolted.  I paced off 12 steps to his tracks where he made his abrupt turn to get out of there.

The next day, I heard the sound of elk walking in the timber on the far side of a strip meadow.  I made 3-4 cow calls over perhaps ten minutes time.  All of a sudden you could hear them coming and out into the meadow popped a cow and two spike bulls.  Pretty cool stuff.

On the third day, the lead cow in a small herd came to my end of a beautiful little pocket meadow to check me out.  A spike was following her and this bull did not like that.  He came running and chased the spike away.   I stopped the bull at 20 yards with my voice for a standing shot.  The arrow entered tight behind the near leg and dead centered the heavy bone on the far shoulder.   He made it 100 yards.”

Don't go elk hunting without "Sweet Pocket Mama"

The "Sweet Pocket Mama" calf/cow elk call is made for the close in work where these fine animals come looking for one of their own.  Realistic, simple to use, great sound, and it easily fits in your pocket, or around your neck!  Black powder, archery and now rifle hunters are using the call and all of them love it, and I enjoy making them for all of you!

    -  just 3 inches long

    -  made out of cherry wood

    -  the reed is easy to clean and dry, and even if it gets a crink in it, it works!
