"It was the end of my week long deer hunt and I did not want to go home empty handed. I saw this buck about 100 yards away and gave him a loud grunt to get his attention. Then three grunts in succession brought him on a string to 25 yards."
Greg, Nebraska 2007 deer season, another nice buck! Quotation Source
"This buck and a smaller one were chasing does at first light. The does ran to the south and, of course, the bucks followed. I thought it was over but I hit them with multiple loud grunts from my Trinity grunt call. I was thrilled when the bigger buck came right up the creek bottom to my stand. I shot him at 15 yards."
Greg - C Springs with another big buck! Kansas 2008
I guess I will add my Nebraska buck for this year! Hunting for about 7 days I called and rattled in numerous juvenile bucks waiting for a good mature buck to show up. My last 45 min of hunting I did a rattle and grunt sequence with the "Stick" and my rattle bag and this nice 5x5 showed up at 24 yards. I just had to shoot him

Greg's Colorado 2008 Buck! This hunt took place next to the river on public, state land, where a lot of water fowl hunters were. Even with all that pressure this buck came by and Greg ended his dayGreg K., C Spring's 2008 Colorado Buck, Greg's email
"October 16 was early but I just had to kickoff my 2009 whitetail season. I pulled into the Colorado state wildlife area just before noon and promptly spent three hours scouting it out. This was my fourth year hunting this area so I had a pretty good idea of where to look. Picking my spot, I hung a stand and settled in for the evening hunt. It was good to be back in a deer stand again. As the sun was setting to a ball on the horizon, I pulled out my trinity grunt call and grunted twice. Actually, I was just having fun as I really didn't expect action, heck is was only the middle of October. Settling aganst the tree trunk I was enjoying the evening. Without warning a doe appeared to my right intently looking past my stand at something. That something turned out to be a bruser. I just had time to grab my bow and shoot this guy at 20 yards. He only made it 60 yards before crashing."
Greg - C Springs - once again starting his deer season off properly - what a deer!
"Clouds, a bit of rain and cooler temperatures put bucks on the move. After grunting in and passing on a smaller buck there was no hestitation with this big dude! A double lung pass through at 20 yards put him down within seconds after traveling only 30 yards. Shooting this dandy in addition to my big Colordo buck makes 2009 extra special. "
Greg in Colorado Springs, with his 2009 Kansas buck - another great deer
"In my experience, you have to "Know the pond you are fishing in." If you are fishing in a local pond filled full of little stocker trout, then don't expect to catch a trophy fish. I had waited years to draw a coveted eastern plains Colorado deer tag and shot a bruiser in a "pond" that I knew had big boy potential. In Kansas, I am lucky enough to have permission on a farm that once again has big potential for a "lunker" lurkering somewhere. My Nebraska hunting spot is another matter. Nebraska puts their rifle season right in the middle of November plus I was on state land. So this buck represents the potential for that "pond". I shot him after passing on a smaller buck not 15 minutes earlier. A 16 yards pass double lung pass through put him down within 40 yards".
Greg is working on an article for one of the hunting magazines about his "know the pond your fishing in" discussion. This is a discussion a lot of people have about the quality of animals they see in their personal hunting locations, look for it, it is well worth reading and talking about.
Greg in Colorado Springs with his 2009 Neb buck - 6 arrows this year, 6 critters
This is my Neb 2009 buck. The season was hot, dry and windy with only a couple days of cool weather and the corn is still up. On the last day prior to gun season, the morning dawned cool and misty, perfect timing. I used "The Stick" and grunted and also used an expermintal call I am thinking of making a soft doe bleet. I called for about 5 solid minutes, what did I have to lose. Up the river came 3 bucks with this guy the last in line. I stopped him at 22 yards with the mouth grunt, one shot with the Rage 2 blade center of the chest and he went 35 yards and piled up. I love an easy blood trail. Praise God for allowing me this wonderful confidence builder, what an animal!Bill Johnson - Owner /call maker Trinity Wood game Calls 2009 Neb Buck
