Dealer inquiries: Thanks to God being kind and generous, the calls are selling very well. Since I prefer to use pro-shops and dealers over the large houses, I am open for folks who would like to chat about becoming a dealer for the full line of calls, or even just part of it. See us in FACEBOOK and say hi!
We are a custom woodworking shop focused on handcrafting wooden game calls for turkey, elk and deer. Using maple, walnut, cherry, oak and unique hardwoods such as bloodwood and purpleheart, I handcraft turkey box calls, cow/calf elk calls, and a deer grunt call. Not only are they pleasing to look at, but are easy, effective and fun to use. In fact, a couple of our customers commented that; "these are a work of art, not just a call". The blends of wood create an incredibly accurate and realistic sound letting you draw turkey, elk and deer close to you!
This site is about turkey, elk and deer hunting using wood game calls! You will see individual pages dedicated to each call, all the information on how they made, how they work and what they cost is on the specific page.
My philosophy about making calls is simple!
- make them here in America
- make them out of natural woods
- focus on the quality of the call
- spend my time and energy on the call
- if I would not use the call, don't ship it
- sell them at a fair price
I believe that a hunter today has to make sure to have a call that works "up close and personal", when the soft, subtle sound is needed to make that nervous critter relax and come in that final 100 yards.of an all wood call is for you!
Before we go further in talking about the company, and all that we make, here is a look at the primary calls!
Double spur Turkey Box Call - this was the primary turkey box call until this year when I upgraded the DSMH and added the new JB Hen. The new DSMH call is made of walnut and maple with a laser engraved, Bloodwood (extremely hardwood) paddle. If you want to order the newly upgraded DSMH, press "here" and you will go to the ordering page. Calls are on hand and will ship within a couple work days.
The new "JB Hen" box call is made of cherry or maple, and purple heart and comes with a laser engraved purple heart paddle. Not only does the new version of the DSMH look incredible, but the new JB Hen sounds as good and looks even better. Due to the hardness of purple heart, the JB Hen is a bit heavier physically, but still has the thumb cut to make it easy to hold in your gloved hand. If you would like to order the new JB Hen, just click "here" and you will go to the order page, the call should ship within a couple work days!
"Sweet Pocket Mama" cow elk call (SPM) - designed to properly use the hard pallet of your mouth enabling the caller to make the many soft, sweet and subtle elk sounds difficult to reproduce on plastic mouthpiece calls! Upgraded this year to include the lanyard ring so you can attach it to a cord and wear it around your neck.
Here in Colorado we have already been playing with our local elk herd using this call, they love it and are walking up looking at that funny, truck shaped elk when we drive the roads near Estes Park and call from the truck.
If you are looking for that soft, sensual close in call, not a shrill or tiny sound, this is the call you need and want for drawing the elk into bow range close!
"The Stick" deer grunt call (DGC) - no need to adjust this call, there is no rubber bands, no buttons to push, there is no opening it or twisting it, just cup your hand over the small end and blow in the large end and you make the most realistic immature young buck sound you can imagine!
I hand make each call. There is no mass production done on any item. Since they are hand crafted, there will be small imperfections in the calls, and no two calls will sound exactly the same. That is part of the unique aspect of hand made, custom calls. If, during the final testing process, the call does not produce the sound I desire, or any of the imperfections hinder the sound, or quality, of the call, I scrap the call!
My desire is for each owner, to totally enjoy how the calls look, sound and feel! I want the call to earn battle scars on them to reflect how they were used in the field. I welcome pictures and stories of how and where they were used. Any pictures that are sent to me will be posted here so you can see yourself on the net. Please respect the animal in your pictures.
WHY WOOD?
Every type of tree has its own unique smell, taste and feel. As you spend time in the woods, or using wood, you realize they also have a unique sound. Critters get used to those smells, tastes (yes they eat the bark), feel and sound and that environment becomes their living room. Their living room is full of "woodsie" smells and sounds created from trees/wood/leaves/etc. We, as intruders, typically bring along non "woodsie" smells and sounds, such as metals, nylons, plastic, rubber, velcro, you name it, we bring it.
When I decided to make my own calls, I looked at the calls currently offered today. While some have wood as part of the call, most included these non-woodsie materials. I decided to make mine out of that original woodsie sounding material, wood!
I have chosen hardwoods walnut, maple, oak, mahagony and imported hardwoods, bloodwood and purpleheart.
Wood does not repel water very well without bark, and various types of wood waterproofing do not allow calls to create a natural, quality sound. If you hunt very long, it is not a matter of if you will, but when you will and how badly you will be wet. In order to combat this issue with inclimate weather, I have mixed a blend of poly coating to add water resistance to the calls and added a water resistant bag (I call the turkey roost) to turkey calls to add even more protection. This mix of poly coating does not hinder the quality of the look, or function, of the calls.
